How to Prevent Burnout

I came across this study recently that I have been fascinated by, which was about the top causes of burn-out in the workplace.

According to the research, the top causes are:

1. Feeling ineffective/lack of focus

This leads you to use up energy spinning your wheels, getting nowhere, or feeling like you can never tackle your to-do list

2. Depersonalization

This means feeling disconnected at work both to the individuals you work with and clients, as well as simply feeling disconnected from the work itself.

We all use technology pretty heavily within our workplaces, between e-mails and DMs and any other in-office server, and its leading to a lack of genuine connection within offices.

3.  Emotional Exhaustion

This happens when we feel emotionally spent after taking too much time dealing with difficult personalities, exerting too much without filling up ourselves first (where those self-care practices at?!), and feeling disconnected from ourselves and our feelings.

Interesting, right?

So to combat these factors in order to keep you shining your brightest, try the following:

- Make an effort to connect with your co-workers or clients in a more authentic way this week by sharing about what you're most excited about it your life right now, or ask them a question about their personal lives

- Try meditation this week to help you focus! Have you never meditated before? This is one of my favourite things to teach people.  If you have no idea where to start, simply inhale for 4 counts, hold for four, and then exhale for 4, and hold for 4.

- Carve out time this week to do something that fills you up, whether its a work-out, time with a friend to chat it out, or coming to Circle :)

With these three factors in mind, you can ensure that you are taking preventive, empowering actions to ensure that you keep feeling your very best.
